I understand the resistance to AI. I see both sides of AI, and it's up to us to use it consciously and for the betterment of humanity. It's of course a challenge, but it's not going away, and will only get more pervasive, so we better start now :)
I think we wouldn't see nearly as much pushback if all these AI tools did was help enable the work of humans. It’s the fact that it can also produce output that is near indistinguishable from someone who can think for themselves that causes the existential crisis …
That's true, Leon, when it comes to written words and art. I see where you are coming from. But it's also been a while on the internet that not everything is what it seems to be or claims to be. I can only hope we learn the ways to distinguish it...
Such an interesting collection of articles. Thanks for sharing them and also mentioning my issue about AI. While I did expect the backlash, I didn't expect the intensity and venom. It is very odd to me. Like Karl, I, too, work in tech, and in a company that has a very progressive approach to its usage. And perhaps it also helps that I've worked as a corporate writer for decades, so I've never had any illusions nor do I feel very precious about the writing process or the writing I produced. To me, it's just a tool.
That said, the other day, I listened to a podcast where a woman said, proudly, how she aims to create 7 novels per week using AI. I don't understand that kind of mindset where you just churn fiction like something off an assembly line either.
To me, my fiction writing is something I do because I love crafting worlds, and I usually take my time to write them. I like sitting with my characters, imagining their worlds. Spitting out books, assembly line, is not my definition of fun at all.
I think, personally, I draw my line at that kind of AI usage. But I can't articulate why.
Yes, we all have our boundaries, and that's a good thing. I do wish more people would learn more about AI before dismissing it as evil. I do also wish that people don't go too far and rely fully on it or exploit it. It'll be interesting times ahead...
Don't get me started on the four day work week! I have a soapbox that's very large on why it's needed.
Thank you for AI article shares. I'm very resistant to AI and its something my full time job is pushing hard. I'd love to hear others thoughts.
Hi, Heather. Thanks for your thoughts!

Interesting reflection on how seasonal living is different depending on where you live!
Welcome back and happy first day of school (a little late but ok) to your little one!
Thanks, Sophie! It’s never too late for wishes. ❤️
Here's to celebrating the seasons and going with the flow, xo
Yes! Going with the flow is the natural way to live, even though modern life seldom gives us the chance.
