Ephemeral @ Forbidden City, Beijing, China

My Couchsurfing hosts told us, it only rains ten times a year yet we still manage to experience it (what chance!) in the famously known as Forbidden City, or in Chinese, Gu Gong (Palace Museum). I must say the place is magnificent indeed, with grand structures and design. After a while, the gates and palaces do seem to repeat itself, but overall it humbles oneself in comparison to its magnificence.

Favourite moment
Sipping cappuccino (yes coffee in China) in a traditional teahouse, overlooking the rain pelting on one of the Imperial Gardens in the heart of the Forbidden City.

Wonder
Who would have thought something so forbidden and inaccessible long ago, are now swarm by a multitude of people daily? I think the royal family of that time wouldn’t have envisioned it as such. Though it has been for about nearly half a century, but in terms of the infinity of time, it is but ephemeral, like a drop of water in the ocean. Doesn’t that put you in perspective that what you see now and what you have may be entirely another thing for another life in time to come?
